What do we call: seated flat, seated climb, standing flat, standing climb? You know, the staples of every indoor cycling class regardless of the program we certified under? I call them "activities" for lack of a better word.

This contrasts with sprints, jumps, intervals, Indian Drills, pacelines, Rider's Choice, ladders, etc. These things we might throw at our class for (safe) variety, whether we dreamed them up ourselves or heard about them here, on Turnstep or from a colleague.

My profile builder program as it stands gives you a short list of "activities" to choose from, and one of the options is "drill." The drill is something you need to remember and fill in on your own. I think that if I included all the various drills in a drop-down list it would eventually grow to 100+ items. Way too big for that kind of thing.

So what, in your opinion, should go in a list of basic class activities, and what should go in a list of drills?

TIA
Lynn

I call them (seated climb, standing climb etc.) "riding positions". Sometimes I do a "drill" where we change positions every 20 seconds. In this case, I refer to them as "modes".
There are endless drills one can come up with. Are you looking for certain names? Perhaps you are looking for categories. How about candence drills, resistance drills, breathing drills, efficiency drills, transition drills. . .
Is that what you're looking for?

okay, Question. What are Indian drills, pacelines and ladders? Please keep in mind that I am a 3 month new instructor. Please give me an example. Why are you asking? Do you want to run a newbie class?

Keep riding and looking up!

Modes, techniques, activities, positions. Hopefully, users will understand when I call them "Activities." But it's easy to change. I've got my domain registered (CycleWarez.com) and am lining up a host. I'll announce here when I've got it ready. (Just once, Billy, unless you don't mind an occasional repeat. I won't be duplicating your forum or Turnstep's or anyone elses.)

Christian, the snide answer to your questions would be, wait till my site goes on-iine and you'll be able to browse the drill database. :) But in the meantime: Indian drills (from running) are when the tail-end runner sprints to the front of the line, then the next runner sprints, etc. Pacelines are the cycling version, only the lead rider works hard, then slides backwards to recover in the line's draft. Ladders are intervals that increase/decrease in length or intensity with every repetition.

Thank you for your information. I have read many of your posts and I value your opinion :) Your sight sounds great can't wait to view it. What else will you have on it? Music? Profiles? Forums? Coaching ideas? Spin games? Eager to know. I am always looking for new ways to improve myself as an instructor. I will have to try some of your drills. Thanks.
Keep riding and looking up!
